Where Mountain
Time Begins.

Leadville is a place of History, Beauty & Adventure.

Leadville was founded in the late 19th century and at one point, became Colorado’s second most populous city. Mining has always been a large part of its history, but tourism and adventurers started seeking its remote beauty.

I call Leadville home for the past couple years with my wife and two daughters. We love having visitors who enjoy and respect the town, trails and nature as much as we do.

Welcome to Leadville.

Let’s be honest, we are all here to explore. Whether by biking, hiking or driving - it’s important to prepare for the unexpected. Here are some quick tips to keep you going:

  • Seriously, drink up. The climate is dry and will suck out any moisture you have. This will also help avoid headaches most people get up here.

  • The sun is hot, the nights are cold, the clouds turn North. It’s hard to plan for everything, but having an extra layer, thin shell and lite beanie, is always good to have in your pack.

  • There is wifi and cell coverage near town, but plan ahead if you're heading out. Download any maps, take screen grabs, pictures of trailheads, etc.

  • Just ask if you're missing something or need anything extra - we probably have something sitting around.

Conditions

11/27 (Image from Ski Cooper)

Winter is officially here. Any hikes in the area will be in snow. Common winter activities would be snow shoeing, nordic or alpine skiing or fat biking. Need advice? Just ask!

Need a break from the snow? Head towards Buena Vista or Salida for the day! Usually a bit warmer.

The Adventure
Short List

Want a challenge? Try riding a bike down groomed snowy trails. Whether the single track behind the college or the Mineral Belt, we’ve got options. Rentals available in town.

The Mineral Belt

Fat Bike

While you’re here, why not climb the tallest peak in Colorado. There are several ways to the top of Mount Elbert, so do your research. North Trail is the shortest, but some solid vertical gain.

Mount Elbert

Hike

Huck Finn Ice Rink is a couple blocks off of Harrison and offers skating during the winter. They have rentals available. Or if you’re lucky, check out one of the lakes in the area for a more of an adventure.

Turquiose Lake

Skating

Give the legs a little rest and wander into town for some food, drinks or check out one of the iconic events we may have going on.

Highly recommend! Very clean, super comfortable bed, spacious bathroom, and absolutely fantastic views from the windows. Casey was super friendly and very responsive when I had questions.
