Get Out

Leadville has a lot to offer within its city limits, but also gives you access to other adventures close by. Besides the obvious hike and bike - here are some other options.

Winter Activities

Ski Cooper

No, not Copper, Cooooooper. It’s about 15 minutes outside of town north on 24. It’s a great little mountain for beginners with affordable lift tickets. Buy in advance for even a better deal.

Fat Bike Riding

Want to ride a 4” wide tire over snow and through the woods? Ok. Rent from Cycles of Life or Leadvelo and give it a go!

Dutch Henry Hill

Go sledding down a groomed hill just South of town. It’s dangerously fast.

Hot Springs

Head down South outside of Buena Vista for some hot springs and relax the body.

Cross Country Skiing

The Mineral Belt is groomed in the winter and an amazing spot to ski. Or head to the Tennessee Pass Nordic Center at the base of Ski Cooper for trails and rentals on site.

Ice Skating

Check out Huck Finn Ice Rink for skate rentals an skating in town. Or if you time it right, the lakes will be frozen glass.

Non-Winter Activities

Buena Vista

Head south to Buena Vista. It’s lower in elevation and trails clear much quicker for some earlier season riding or late fall adventures. Check out the Surf Hotel for some good food and to explore the river.

Fly Fishing

There are several outfitters that will take you out on the Arkansas River or explore from high country lakes to catch some trout.

Fire on the Mountain

Located right in town, you can stop in whenever and paint a pot, plate, mug, figurine, whatever! They glaze and fire it and can even send it back to you. Great for kids and adults.

Twin Lakes

About 20 minutes South is Twin Lakes. It’s the start of Independence Pass which goes over to Aspen. There is great hiking around the lakes and in the area with a small ‘town’.

ATV Tours

Get off the bike and get back on the trails via an ATV to see the sites.

Paddle Boarding

Twin Lakes has a SUP rental if you wanted to try paddle boarding on the big lakes. If you have your own, Turquoise Lake is also a great spot. Be careful of the weather and wind tho - wear a lifejacket.

Rafting

Head to Buena Vista or Salida to try white water rafting. The categories vary depending on when and where you go.

Checkout Phil’s Place

Phil’s Place is located just off the Mineral Belt Trail and walkable to town. We live here full time to enjoy all the seasons that Leadville has to offer. If you’re interested in booking, check out our listing on AirBNB.
